speak at a meeting

At any regular meeting, citizens may appear before the Board to be heard on any subject related to Town government, or any individual matter which may involve Town government.  A provision is made on each agenda for PUBLIC FORUM.  At this time, citizens are encouraged to bring to the Board's attention matters that are not specifically listed on the agenda.  Anyone desiring to address the Board on an Agenda item, other than a public hearing item should do so at the Public Forum.

To speak at the Public Forum, you must sign up with the Town Clerk PRIOR to 6:50 p.m. on the meeting night.  During the Public Forum portion of the Board Meeting, the Mayor will call your name.  At that time you will approach the speaker’s stand and state your name, address, and reason for speaking.  Speakers are allowed to speak no more than (3) three minutes, unless the Mayor allows an extension of time.

Anyone desiring to address the Board of Aldermen on a specific concern requiring more effective and informed action by the Board should contact the Town Clerk no later than 12:00 noon at least three (3) weeks prior to the intended meeting in which the item is to be heard.  Whenever possible, staff will address the concern directly but if staff cannot address the issue, then it will be placed on the agenda as early as is practicable. The person making the request should provide sufficient information pertaining to their concerns to allow the Board to review the citizen concerns and/or request. You may contact the Town Clerk, Rhonda Webb, by calling (910)703–8900 or via e-mail
